Western Montgomery CTC reports new enrollment, culinary completion and potential first-responders pilot participation

A board member reported the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center is up 25 students this year, completed its cafeteria/culinary work and may participate in a county First Responders Training Pilot Program pending approval.
Mrs. Weingarten, a board member and representative to the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center (CTC) joint-operating committee, told the Sept. 29 board meeting that the CTC has seen modest enrollment growth and completed several operational upgrades.
"Enrollment is just under 700 students and we're up 25 students this year," Weingarten said. She reported the CTC completed its cafeteria and culinary department refurbishment and that the site has implemented new key-card readers, which are about 95% complete following funding from state Sen. Penny Chuck.
Weingarten also said the county is considering allowing students to attend a First Responders Training Pilot Program; if approved, the CTC would send three students three days a week and all four county CTCs would participate. She noted the CTC completed the installation of safety and operational equipment over the summer, including camera-phase work and a bidirectional amplifier funded by a PCCD grant.
Ending: The board member said the joint-operating committee meets next on Oct. 6 and will report back to the district board; specifics on pilot approval and any funding details were not provided at the Sept. 29 meeting.
