Spring-Ford board announces Spring City Elementary has permanent occupancy permit; ribbon cutting set for Oct. 14

The Spring-Ford Area School District reported at its Sept. 29 board meeting that Spring City Elementary has received a permanent occupancy permit and that the district will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and self-guided tours on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Dr. Scanlon, superintendent, said the district had been operating under a temporary occupancy permit until a final inspection was completed and that thanks to facilities staff the district secured permanent approval. "Spring City last week received the permanent occupancy permit," Dr. Scanlon said. "Thanks to our facilities director Dan Pellegren and his staff for ensuring that all the final details were in place for that final inspection."
The board said the ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 5 p.m., followed by self-guided tours of renovated spaces. The superintendent also said the district is meeting weekly with architects to develop a more specific timeline for broader capital planning, including research on full-day kindergarten and a middle-school model. Those curriculum and finance updates will be presented at committee meetings in October, the superintendent said.
Board members noted the ceremony as a long-awaited milestone. Mrs. Weingarten, who had participated in a property committee meeting update, thanked staff and encouraged community attendance. "I do hope that the community does join us for this, especially I see some former board directors in the audience today," she said.
The district did not provide dollar amounts for remaining capital work during the meeting; the timeline and financial details are scheduled for upcoming committee meetings. The board said the capital plan timeline that was discussed at the recent work session remains as presented.
Ending: The district will accept the public at the ribbon-cutting on Oct. 14 and will share additional capital-plan details at committee meetings on Oct. 13 (curriculum and technology) and Oct. 14 (finance).
