Board hears updates on AP testing costs, dual-degree expansion with Triton, dual enrollment and certificantion licenses

District academic staff provided a series of information items on advanced coursework, dual-degree and career-technical education supports.
Advanced Placement: The presentation said the district historically paid AP exam fees (about $99 per exam plus a small additional fee) and that the district covered roughly 1,666 exams last year. After fee waivers, the district said it paid approximately $106,000; the board earlier had approved about $155,000 in anticipation of fees. For the coming year the district said it would seek approval for an estimated upfront cost of $148,608 before fee reductions.
Dual-degree and dual enrollment: Staff described a dual-degree opportunity with Triton College in which students attend Triton full-time for junior and senior years and can earn an associate degree while completing high school. The district said it plans to expand the program by an additional seven students per school next year; the presentation listed a cost for that expansion of $285,134 (tuition, transportation and related costs). Staff said the district’s long-term goal is to teach the associate-degree sequence in-house to reduce cost, but doing so requires faculty credentials and approvals from Triton.
Dual enrollment and meal vouchers: Dual-enrollment pathways to career-technical credentials continue; the district said it will again seek capacity for about 120 dual-enrollment students. The presentation also said the district provides meal vouchers to students attending Triton during lunch so they receive meals while off campus; the presentation did not specify a clear total dollar figure for the vouchers in the slides shown.
CTE credentialing: The board was shown a proposal to license CertiPort testing for CTE classes (digital credentials such as Adobe and Microsoft certifications); the total cost listed in the slides was $47,333.
Other items: The district said it would present a proposed memorandum of agreement to add a Dungeons & Dragons club as a stipend-eligible extracurricular if the board approves schedule additions.
