Superintendent Dr. Benante updated the board on revisions to the district's goals for the school year, noting two principal changes: an explicit plan to support incoming teachers and administrators and a substantive rewrite of Goal 5 to broaden and deepen program assessment across the district.
"The first was just inserting in 1 of the goals as it relates to a plan for supporting new teachers that should read down new teachers and administrators..." Dr. Benante told the board. He said the change reflected expected turnover and the district's intent to provide a more thorough transition plan for both teachers and administrators.
Dr. Benante said the most substantive changes were made to Goal 5, which now emphasizes a fuller assessment of district programs and systems that support student success. "Goal 5 is aimed at further assessing this, more thoroughly assessing that through this school year and having a plan in place for next school year," he said.
Board members asked about how the goals would be formalized and when a product would be presented. Dr. Benante said the administration planned to present a written plan and convert it into a report to the board later in the school year; he listed staff members working on the plan and said the administration would put the item on a follow-up meeting for formal adoption or resolution.
The board discussed demographic alignment of staff and students and noted ongoing human-resources efforts to recruit a teaching workforce that reflects student demographics; administrators said the district would continue staffing snapshots and hiring strategies tied to the goal. The administration indicated the goals will be presented for consideration at future meetings and that they are still iterating the language before formal adoption.
