Metuchen district posts high CUSAC placement scores in review of five indicator areas

District administrators told the Metuchen Board of Education on Sept. 30 that the district’s placement scores under New Jersey’s CUSAC review exceeded the 80-point threshold in every required area.
Dr. Caputo, the superintendent, said the district received final placement scores last week following a state review that included district self-evaluation, county office electronic review and an on-site visit. ‘‘We are doing things right,’’ Dr. Caputo said while reporting placement scores: instruction and program 90; fiscal management 92; governance 95; operations 100; personnel 100.
Under the CUSAC process, districts that score below 80 in any of the five indicators must enact an action plan. Dr. Caputo told the board the district’s scores were accompanied by positive feedback from the county executive superintendent and county-level education staff.
The board subsequently moved policy items that included the CUSAC placement report as part of items C1–C2; the policy motion carried by roll call later in the meeting.
Why it matters: CUSAC placement results are a periodic accountability check that can trigger required action plans when scores fall short. Metuchen’s results, as presented to the board, show no immediate state-mandated corrective plan was required.
Board discussion about the placement scores was brief; the board scheduled the formal policy vote as part of the agenda’s consent items.
