The commission noted the county holds a large volume of water rights (discussed in the meeting as about 12,000 acre-feet) and that an earlier lapse of a water right had required reinstatement. Commissioners emphasized they did not want a repeat of that lapse. Kent Snyder confirmed he was present for the item and had no further comments.
A motion was made and seconded to authorize Craig Smith to complete and submit the extension application; commissioners responded “Aye” during the voice vote and the motion carried. Commissioners asked staff to later confirm which specific water right(s) the extension covers.
The commission and staff also discussed the typical length of such extensions. Craig Smith said the extension period, if granted, is typically five years.
The commission directed staff to circulate the filed application to the commissioners after submission so the board has a record that the extension was filed.
