Douglas County approves DHHS agreement to fund youth detention services, totaling $475,000 over two years

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved a memorandum of agreement with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to cover detention services at the Douglas County Youth Center. The item was part of the consent agenda and passed unanimously.
Mark LaFleur, representing the Douglas County Youth Center, told commissioners the funds cover youth who are not yet on probation while they remain at the center. "These funds are to take care of those youth who are not on probation yet that come to the youth center. They are paid underneath the Department of Health and Human Services until those youth go through the court process and then are actually put on probation," LaFleur said.
Commissioners discussed contract amounts listed on the agenda: a renewal (Renewal 1) of $225,000 and an additional $250,000 line, for a total of $475,000. LaFleur said the amounts span the past fiscal year and the upcoming fiscal year. When the board took the consent vote, it removed one requested item (item G) at the youth centers request to return at a later meeting.
The consent motion approving the item was made and carried 7-0. The agreement will reimburse the county for detention services provided to youths before case disposition and probation status is set.
