Tredyffrin-Easttown updates athletic-field construction, reports change orders on summer projects

The Tredyffrin-Easttown School District’s facilities committee on Sept. 29 reported progress and additional costs for district-wide summer infrastructure and ongoing construction projects, including the Conestoga athletic-field renovation and the Bearhill Elementary project.
The district celebrated a ribbon-cutting Sept. 24 for one completed turf field, and committee chair Dr. Robert Singh said Turf Field 2 is in use while Turf Field 1 has its stone base, retaining wall and bleacher foundations in place. Work on the tennis-court surfacing and track surfacing had started; site utilities, internal roadways and sidewalks have been installed in most locations, Singh said.
Why it matters: The athletic-field and campus projects are large, multi-phase capital improvements affecting student athletics, traffic patterns and construction budgets across the district.
Change orders and construction discoveries
Singh told the board that a small concrete-demolition change order totaled $3,553 (about 0.5% of the related project total). More substantial change orders for general trades, electrical and plumbing at Hillside Elementary totaled approximately $254,000, about 6.4% of that project’s original cost, he said. The committee also noted unanticipated conditions uncovered during site work — including a sanitary sewer discovery and relocated primary electrical service required by PECO — which required additional work to maintain site and track integrity.
Bearhill Elementary and other projects
For the Bearhill Elementary project, Singh said notices to proceed were issued in August, preconstruction meetings held and construction permits obtained. Prime contractors have begun mobilization; existing ductwork demolition and site fencing and trailers are already in place. The committee maintained that regular updates, including a weekly flyover video, are available on the district’s project page at tesd.net.
Public access and oversight
Singh encouraged the public to view project updates and timelines on the district website and said the facilities committee continues to review nine buildings and a district-wide project planned for summer 2026. The committee’s next meeting was set for Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the TEAO.
