The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District Board of Education approved a slate of items from administration, curriculum, finance and personnel committees at its meeting.
The board voted to approve administration items 1–8 plus the purple addendum; curriculum and instruction items 1–6; finance items 1–9 plus the blue addendum; and personnel items 1–3 plus the green addendum (which included a verbal correction to an effective date for Anindita Mukherjee). No recorded “no” votes were read aloud during the roll calls for those motions; one approval vote on minutes recorded two abstentions.
Committee reports highlighted several substantive matters that the board discussed or approved:
- Administration and facilities: The A&F Committee recommended second readings and approval of multiple policies and regulations, including Policy 0174 (legal services), Policy 0177 (professional services), Policy/Regulation 1570 (internal controls), Policy 1620 (administrative employment contracts), Policy 2422 (statutory curricular requirements), Policy/Regulation 611 (special education Medicaid initiative), and Policy 6220 (budget preparation). The committee also reviewed updated crisis manuals and the annual memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the West Windsor and Plainsboro Police Departments. Board members clarified the MOA is an annual form originating from the Attorney General’s office.
- Curriculum: The curriculum committee recommended submission of the district’s Professional Development Plan and District Mentoring Plan Statement of Assurance for the 2025–26 school year to the New Jersey Department of Education pursuant to NJAC 6A:9C-4.2. The committee also recommended disposal of worn instructional materials, approval of revised curricula and several field trips, including Model Congress trips to Washington, D.C., for High School South and High School North (estimated cost approximately $500 per student) and a Model Congress trip to Yale University for High School North (estimated cost approximately $460 per student).
- Finance and operations: The finance committee reported that the 2024–25 audit on-site work is complete and the audit is progressing electronically. Summer construction projects advanced: Hawk’s new air-conditioning system ran on the first day of school after removal of the old HVAC units; heater work will continue in the fall after hours; more than 30 rooms in the original Hawk building received new unit ventilators and built-in shelving; rooftop-unit replacement work is scheduled to begin at Grover. The parking lot carport solar array designs are under close review by Plainsboro officials. Transportation adjustments included contracting an additional bus for one overcrowded route.
- Food service: Sales were up about 7% year over year. Menus now include additional Asian and vegan options and are described as largely halal-friendly; two-tiered pricing returned at secondary schools after staffing improved. The district plans to install smart vending machines and to enter a food-donation agreement with Share My Meals Inc.; Share My Meals will pick up properly stored excess prepared food for distribution to local support agencies within two days. The committee reported outstanding unpaid lunch balances of about $105,000 at the start of the school year; staff said they are reviewing demographic data to target outreach and enrollment in free/reduced meal programs.
The board also acknowledged the retirement of Eileen Chunko, the district’s physical therapist, after 26½ years of service.
No further formal actions or deadlines tied to the committee items were announced during the meeting beyond the regular committee meeting schedules noted in the reports.
