Dunn County expands use of Code Red emergency notification system, notes recent 911 staffing change

Melissa, director of Dunn County Emergency Management and 911, told the Judicial and Law Committee the county has begun expanding uses of its Code Red mass-notification system beyond high-profile emergencies and missing-person alerts.
"Code Red is a mass notification system that ... can be used different ways," Melissa said. She described plans to use the system to notify county employees of workplace disruptions, to call highway-shop staff such as plow drivers during severe weather, and to send informational messages that recipients can acknowledge.
Melissa said landline phones in Dunn County are automatically included in the system but people with only cell phones must sign up on the county website or by QR code. "It's just another layer of notification for things," she said, adding that the system can route non-emergency information and provide response confirmations.
Separately, Melissa reported a recent 911 staffing change: an employee who had begun training in July resigned after receiving military orders to move. "For a very, very short period of time, like a week and a half, our office was full staffed," she said, and described the resignation as the only recent personnel change.
Committee members asked for more information about Code Red; Melissa said the county office is willing to work with other departments to broaden the system’s use and that sign-up details are posted on the Dunn County website.
