Committee recommends naming city golf course for longtime engineer John Frawley

The Advisory Committee for Racial Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights voted to recommend to the city that the municipal golf course be named in honor of John Frawley, a longtime city engineer who helped plan and expand the course over several decades.
Councilor Dan Trumbull presented the proposal, saying Frawley worked on major construction projects for the city for roughly 50 years, helped acquire land for the original course on Webster Avenue, designed the clubhouse and played a central role in expanding the course to 27 holes. Trumbull said Frawley is in his early 90s, lives locally and was not previously aware the naming idea had been raised.
Committee members reviewed letters submitted in support of the naming and news clippings included in the meeting packet. After brief discussion members voted in favor of making a recommendation to route the naming referral to the council—s Government Operations (DevOps/GovOps) committee for consideration.
The committee did not itself adopt a formal ordinance; it voted to forward the naming recommendation to the appropriate council committee for further action.
Next steps: staff will include the packet materials and the committee recommendation in the DevOps agenda for the upcoming council committee meeting.
