Board proclaims Binational Health Week and Disability Awareness Month; honors community leader Rose Amador

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors used part of its Sept. 30 meeting to adopt ceremonial proclamations and to recognize community leaders.
The board proclaimed Oct. as Disability Awareness Month and recognized local disability organizations at the meeting; advocates described the county’s work to increase accessibility and support services and urged continued investments. County staff and nonprofit leaders noted the county’s role in supporting disability employment and services and celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Supervisors also adopted a proclamation recognizing Binational Health Week and welcomed San Jose’s Consul General of Mexico and county public-health staff to underscore partnerships that provide health screenings and services to residents regardless of immigration status. Dr. Sarah Redmond, acting health officer, and the Consulate General highlighted decades of collaboration and described free health services provided through the county’s binational initiatives.
In a separate recognition, the board honored Rose Amador for decades of community service leading workforce-development and Latino and Indigenous advocacy organizations. Elected officials and community members praised Amador’s leadership and legacy.
