Commissioners vote to opt in to national opioid settlement; county share not yet calculable

Josephine County approved a motion on Sept. 30 to opt in to a proposed national settlement with secondary opioid manufacturers, county counsel said.

County counsel told the board the settlement package aggregates multiple manufacturers and that the total fund discussed in the meeting for participating subdivisions was approximately $720 million. Counsel said the county cannot yet calculate how much Josephine County would receive because allocation formulas depend on population, estimates of distributed opioid quantities and how many subdivisions participate.

Counsel also said the participation deadline for the settlement was Oct. 8. The board voted to opt in; the motion passed with all three commissioners recorded as voting yes.
