Commissioners approve $2,611.76 refund to Idaho Housing and Finance after deed error

County clerk staff explained a 2019 deed transfer that inadvertently included a second legal description when the county deeded property used by Aid for Friends to the Idaho Housing and Finance Association. Idaho Housing and Finance paid property taxes on the mistakenly conveyed parcel after receiving tax bills in 2023 and a late notice in 2024.
County staff obtained a quitclaim deed returning the mistakenly conveyed parcel to Bannock County and requested approval to reimburse Idaho Housing and Finance for taxes, fees and interest paid while the property was in their name. The total refund amount was $2,611.76. Commissioners discussed the timing of tax notices and whether the private party bore any responsibility; county staff said Idaho Housing and Finance had only received tax bills for 2023 and 2024.
A commissioner moved to authorize payment of $2,611.76 from county accounting operations to reimburse Idaho Housing and Finance; the board approved the motion by voice vote. County staff will prepare the invoice and process payment in the current fiscal year.
