Anson County Schools recognizes two students selected for North Carolina Governor's School

The Anson County Board of Education recognized two students on Sept. 29 for being selected to and attending the North Carolina Governor's School summer session 2025.
Brianna Cox and Lydia Montiel Villanueva were invited to the front of the meeting for brief remarks and a photo. The board thanked both students for representing Anson County Schools and for their leadership.
"North Carolina Governor School was a real honor. It was a wonderful experience, and it allowed me to learn so much and just be around so much community and leadership," Brianna Cox said.
Lydia Montiel Villanueva told the board she appreciated Anson County Schools paying for her attendance and said the experience helped her "go beyond my own comfort zone" and "advance as a leader." The board chair invited the students to stay for photos and asked the audience to applaud the students.
The board did not take any formal action related to the Governor's School recognitions; the agenda moved on after the presentation.
