Board committees approve CTE clinical agreements, $100,000 Jobs for NC Graduates grant and related MOU to go to full board

Chad Thompson presented several workforce and CTE items to the academic services and accountability committee and the academic services committee, and the committee approved sending the items to the full board for final action.
Thompson said the CTE nurse aide program requires students to complete clinical experiences and that the district uses three partner facilities for those clinical placements: Carrollton of Nash, Wilson Pines and Breckenridge Rehabilitation. The committee voted to forward the CTE clinical facility MOUs to the full board.
Thompson also announced the district received an Education and Workforce Innovation grant from the North Carolina Department of Instruction worth $100,000 to support the Jobs for North Carolina Graduates (JNCG) program at Rocky Mount High School. “It is worth $100,000,” Thompson said. The program, run in partnership with Communities In Schools, provides classroom instruction, work‑based learning and 12 months of post‑graduation follow‑up for participating at‑risk juniors and seniors.
Separately, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was presented between Communities In Schools, North Carolina Services Group LLC and Nash County Public Schools to implement the JNCG program at Rocky Mount High School. The MOU calls for Nash County Public Schools to provide $33,333 per year for three years (monthly installments of $2,777.75) from grant funds, not to exceed $99,999 over three years; Communities In Schools will provide the required 50% match and additional program support, the presenters said.
The committee had no questions and approved forwarding the grant award and the CIS MOU to the full board for approval by voice vote.
The CTE clinical MOUs, the grant award and the CIS MOU will appear on the full board agenda for formal approval and execution.
