Kathy Sapia, a 50‑year resident of the Dartmouth, Karam Drive and Bel Air neighborhood, told Madison Heights City Council on Sept. 29 that residents are concerned about a proposed Dartmouth expansion that they discussed at a planning commission meeting.
Sapia, who said the planning commission discussion lasted two‑and‑a‑half hours and that the meeting was not taped, summarized notes she took and urged the council to address the topic at its Oct. 13 meeting.
She described concerns about how a nearby property purchase and proposed development could change the neighborhood's character and traffic patterns near 12 Mile Road. Sapia told council she heard suggestions at the planning commission meeting about working with police on alternate driving routes and about preserving the boundary between commercial and residential areas.
"It changes the neighborhood. It changes everything," Sapia said, urging council review and oversight.
The mayor invited interested residents to attend and to bring their concerns back to council on Oct. 13; no formal action on the Dartmouth expansion was taken at the Sept. 29 meeting.
