Council approves multiple rezonings and variances; several items referred back to committee

During the zoning committee portion of the meeting, Columbus City Council approved a number of rezonings and council variances and referred other items back to committee at applicants’ requests.
Approved items include rezoning for 1854 Delta Road to allow up to a 264-unit multiunit development (ordinance 2516-2025) and council variances permitting two single-unit dwellings on a single lot and carriage-house construction on multiple parcels across several neighborhoods. The council approved a variance to allow an existing monopole telecommunications antenna to remain on the site of a proposed assisted-living facility at 3639 Gender Road while reducing required parking and rear-yard dimensions for that project. That application had approval from city staff and the Greater Southeast Area Commission.
Several rezoning requests and companion variances—for example, proposals for 4970 Lindora Drive and 2410 Demeris Drive—were postponed or referred back to committee at the applicants’ request. Council said city staff and area commissions had reviewed the items that were advanced and recommended the variances in line with staff reports.
For each variance advanced, council accepted the staff report into evidence and then voted to adopt the recommendation; roll calls recorded councilmembers present as voting yes. Council emphasized standard procedure for zoning hearings, speaker rules and that staff and commission recommendations were part of the record for each item.
