Chris Charamella, superintendent of public works, said the work covers Lower Broadway from Ambrose Street to Ward Street near BJ’s and involves replacing a well‑undersized 6‑inch main that Charamella said is more than 100 years old and causes frequent problems. He estimated the construction would begin in spring and take approximately two months to complete but noted work near the rotary will add complexity.
City CFO Richard Viscay said the bond order will provide the funds needed to execute the contract and answered council questions on timing and scope. Councilors asked about schedule and impacts to local businesses; Charamella said the contractor would stage work to minimize disruption.
The clerk conducted a roll-call vote; all city councilors present voted yes and the loan order passed.
