At the Sept. 30 premeeting, the Newark Municipal Council reviewed a list of contracts administered through the purchasing office, including emergency contract extensions and use-of-state-contracts items for inspection systems, vehicle maintenance, radio communications, law-enforcement firearm equipment, and large service contracts for street maintenance, office furniture and plumbing.
Purchasing Director Guano Reba told the council the motorcycle purchase under item K was a one-time purchase of 12 new motorcycles. Council members asked whether the motorcycles were new or leased and how many units the contract covered; Reba confirmed "12 motorcycles." Council members then noted sponsorship and seconding for the item on the docket.
Other items on the purchasing docket included an extended emergency contract for furnishings for a Path Home Renovation Project and a request to use state contracts to procure six x-ray inspection systems. The docket also listed a contract for police motorcycles, radio communication equipment, and a major contract for street maintenance covering snow and ice removal, salt, sand and spreading.
Council members asked follow-up questions about quantities and procurement method; staff answered with clarification that several items used existing state contracts and that the motorcycle purchase would be a one-time acquisition. The premeeting transcript does not show final procurement votes for the items discussed.
