Columbus City Council approved a package of Recreation and Parks capital measures, including the annual equipment purchase authorization of $2,162,500 for mowers, stump grinders, bucket lifts and other maintenance machinery, and an auditor’s certificate to reimburse staff time charged to capital projects in the amount of $1,200,000.
Council also approved a $1,000,000 capital contribution to the Columbus Museum of Art toward a roof replacement project. Department staff said the museum’s existing roof—installed roughly 30 years ago—has allowed water intrusion that damaged interior finishes and risks further harm to galleries and collections. The museum plans to combine city support with state, county and private fundraising; Recreation and Parks described the full replacement cost at about $4.5 million and said the proposed work will use a combination of rubber membrane and copper standing seam roofing to match historic materials.
Committee presentation said the equipment purchase is time-sensitive so machinery can be used for the remainder of the current season; the items will replace aging fleet assets used by building maintenance, forestry and parts and support sections.
Councilmember (chair) moved each ordinance for passage, and roll calls recorded the council members present as voting yes on each item. Ordinances were advanced as emergency measures to expedite procurement and construction schedules.
