The proclamation, introduced by the mayor and Parks staff, acknowledged that Mason Fuhrman and the Furman Literacy Project (charter number 176026) have placed Little Free Libraries at Ingalls Park, Sunrise Park, Golden Isles Park, O. B. Johnson Park, Peter Bluestein Park, Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Fire Station 7 and City Hall, and that the effort has collected and distributed about 10,000 books.
Mason Fuhrman, the student volunteer and founder, told the commission, "So I wanted to help my community out, and I wanted to increase the literacy rate around here." City staff and commissioners noted the group routinely maintains the boxes and refills books and encouraged other residents to consider hosting a Little Free Library.
Parks staff said contractors were completing fence repairs at John Scavo Park and that both dog‑park enclosures were closed temporarily for efficiency during the work; staff said they expect the dog park fencing to be finished by the end of the week and to reopen the park then.
