Commission approves new admiral location and "Greetings from Cbus" image on North Front Street

The Downtown Commission approved a new permanent admiral location (an authorized large graphic/wall installation) at 415 North Front Street and separately approved the proposed “Greetings from Cbus” image for that site.

Staff described the site as a blank brick wall north of the R Bar restaurant, between North Ludlow Street and the Arena Crossing apartments, and said submitted materials included an owner authorization letter and a limited warranty deed showing site ownership. Carly Lampercic of Nationwide Realty Investors said Nationwide is the property owner and described the proposal as an activation of a privately owned alley to celebrate the Arena District’s anniversary and provide a pedestrian-level photo opportunity. Commissioners discussed scale and context; one commissioner asked whether the graphic would be updated later and staff explained that future images below a 15% text-area threshold would be staff-approvable but the current proposed image includes text that exceeds that threshold and therefore required full commission review. The commission first voted to approve the location; the chair announced a count of "3 yeses, 1 no, and 1 abstention," and the motion carried. A second motion to approve the proposed "Greetings from Cbus" image passed with a recorded tally of four yes votes and one abstention.

Staff noted they cannot legally control content of privately proposed artwork beyond the adopted design guidelines; the approvals were for the specific location and the submitted image as shown to the commission.
