Mount Si student rep updates board on Freshman welcome, rally changes and student surveys

The board heard a brief report from the Mount Si student representative at the Sept. 25 meeting. The student rep described the return‑to‑school activities and outlined survey and communications priorities for the year.
Highlights from the report: The student rep said staff welcomed more than 500 freshmen and ran leadership training for student leaders ahead of Wildcat Day. The school staged an afternoon assembly that drew strong student turnout, and students are piloting a new approach to “cats in the crowd” recognition that prioritizes occasions important to athletes and teams.
Homecoming and student survey: The rep said a student survey on whether homecoming should include a Friday or Saturday dance had about 200 responses at the time of the presentation and was nearly evenly split; results were expected after the survey closed. The student rep also described a proposed lunch survey to run multiple days at the high school (and at middle schools) to collect input on student experience, attendance incentives, a classroom phone‑policy pilot and accessibility of extracurriculars.
Communications: The student rep proposed increased Instagram use to summarize meetings and highlight CTE programs and said the student leadership will pursue more monthly club reports to the school and board.
