Terry Taft, representing the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York, used a public comment slot at the Community Board 2 Schools & Education Committee meeting to describe services the group provides to families raising adopted, foster or kinship children. “There's a lot of families, and I don't know how many in the district that are doing this, and it's different than raising kids from birth,” Taft said, and left informational brochures with the committee.
Taft described the coalitionprogram Agape (Adoptive and Guardianship Assistance Program for Everyone) as an intensive support program providing evidence‑based services and navigation assistance for families raising children outside of birth parenting. When asked about funding sources, Taft said the program is “funded fully by the state” through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), and that some related programs are supported by philanthropic funding.
The committee’s district manager was offered the Agape materials for inclusion in a community e‑blast to the boardfootprint; Taft said he would follow up with Superintendent Colin McGuire to make district staff aware of the resources.
The comment was recorded during the public comment portion of the meeting and did not trigger a committee action or vote.
