Secondary roads report: culvert and bridge approaches open, Maple River patched; Templeton shed framing begins

Staff reported a minor repair to a tile intake on East Anthony Street in Salem (near the Kemper Field House) and said the contractor completed work on a box culvert at 300 and Twentieth Street; final grading and fence installation were in place and the crew expected to reopen the road within days after additional backfilling and curing. A department representative said the contractor considers the work substantially complete.

Maple River received patching and a seal coat and reopened the same week, and work on bridge approaches at Hawthorne and N.14 is complete; staff said the approaches were opened after curing times and that half‑mile intersections that were closed remain under monitoring. Templeton’s new county shed is starting wall framing this week; truss installation timing depends on contractor scheduling.

Staff also reported localized bank damage and erosion on Drain 77 (near the old Subway station) and described visual inspections of blueprint locations to identify where grain‑handling infrastructure and drainage issues connect. Supervisors and staff discussed rail blockages in Glidden that impede elevator access and noted emergency services do not receive automatic notifications from railroads about blocked crossings; staff said first responders should plan alternate routes when blockages occur.

No formal votes were taken during the project updates beyond routine agenda approvals; supervisors thanked staff for the progress reports and asked for follow‑up if weather or contractor delays affect reopening timelines.
