Staff gave several departmental updates aimed at supporting downtown activation and tourism.
Economic development staff said Second Sundays ran four times this summer (June through Sept. 14) in coordination with the Sunday farmers market and that initial feedback was positive; staff will prepare an after‑action report with attendance and partner feedback for the economic development subcommittee. Staff also reported Live at Julliard wrapped this year and that the Sculpture Walk will proceed with installations scheduled in the coming weeks.
The Art Walk initiative will install work by nine U.S.‑based artists in Railroad Square; staff said marketing funds from the public art fund will be used to boost visitor traffic and hotel stays. Staff described ongoing discussions about how to display new ASALA panels being produced at the Foundry — whether on the fountain, on a stage, or another format — and said the panels are currently being poured.
Staff also announced the city closed recruitment for a new full‑time event specialist position and received 79 applicants. The position is intended to support public and cultural events, and staff said they aim to fill it by the end of the year.
The updates were informational; no formal board action was taken on these items. Staff said more detailed reports (including a Second Sundays after‑action report and candidate next steps for the event specialist position) will be supplied to the board or relevant subcommittees.
