Cass County collector reports $365,142 in 2025 tax sale proceeds; one Belton parcel charged off

Chris Mollendorf, Cass County collector, reported to the Cass County Commission on Sept. 17, 2025, that the county’s 2025 tax sale produced $365,142.01 in proceeds and that one parcel did not sell and was charged off.
Mollendorf said the county took 25 properties to sale on the statutory date (the fourth Monday in August) and that 10 bidders participated. Of the 25 properties, 20 were first offerings, four were second offerings and one was offered a third time; 21 parcels sold and three were no-sale. The parcel charged off and added to the packet for commission approval is listed at 302 Cedar St., Belton, Missouri, 64012, and shown in the packet as owned by Terrence J. and Juanita Callahan.
Mollendorf described outreach steps the collector’s office uses to locate owners before a sale, including using Accurint and contacting probate attorneys, family members, neighbors or community members. "I do not wanna sell anybody's property," Mollendorf said, adding the office works to notify owners and sometimes coordinates with local churches or others to help pay back taxes. He said the office has adjusted posting methods and now assigns each property to a staff member to improve outreach and reduce the number of sales.
The commission approved the charge-off by motion and entered the tax sale report into the public record. Mollendorf said a full listing of the properties and sale results was included in the meeting packet and formally entered into the minutes.
