Wilson County solid waste board members approved new operating hours for county convenience centers effective Nov. 1 and received a monthly report on landfill and recycling activity.
The board voted by voice to set the centers’ official closing time at 4:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 1, with staff instructed to allow a 15-minute gate-closing grace period until 4:45 p.m. The motion carried on a voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The board also reviewed landfill and recycling statistics presented by Randy Lankans. Lankans said landfill intake was "64 yards" and that landfill revenue was $20,960; he said revenue was down compared with the same period last year. He reported collections of about 305 tons at the county’s collection points and tipping fees reported at about $45,677. On recycling, Lankans said the county processed about 340 tons with revenue of $20,048, "up ... about 99 tons" year over year but down roughly $7,000 in revenue because of lower metal prices.
Lankans said the county recorded 334 loads out of convenience centers, an increase of 41 loads, and a small decrease in waste-for-recycling loads. He noted ongoing work on roof repairs at a facility and said the department would distribute brochures and put up a banner to publicize the hours change. Christie (last name not specified) was asked to help with social-media posts and a public-service announcement.
Board members discussed aligning the hour change with daylight-saving time; the board confirmed the Nov. 1 effective date and approved the motion.
The solid waste report, including the activity and revenue figures and the hours change, was approved by voice vote. No formal roll-call tally was provided in the meeting record.
