Cherokee Nation treasurer: audits unmodified, spending on track ahead of budget hearings

Treasurer Taylor briefed the Cherokee Nation Executive and Finance Committee on the office of financial resources’ monthly report, saying audits returned an unmodified opinion and the Nation has not tapped a $5 million cash reserve.
Taylor said committee members receive a monthly packet with disbursement listings, purchase orders, time-card processing and summaries of audit progress. “You were briefed on what all goes on in the office of financial resources…every month, you will get a synopsis of what actually went on in my office during that month and then also a recap for the year,” Taylor said.
The treasurer reported that awards to TARO vendors were at 93% for the year and that most accounting units had spent about 70% of their budgets as of the end of June, which she described as “about right on track.” Taylor invited committee members to contact her office for questions and said she was available for consultations between meetings.
Taylor also reminded the committee that budget hearings were scheduled to begin the following Tuesday and encouraged new councilors to review the materials and attend. “I am always available for meeting, virtual meeting, in person consultation, phone call…call me anytime,” she said.
Committee members had no follow-up questions during the meeting. No formal action on the treasurer’s report was taken; the item served as informational briefing ahead of the committee’s upcoming budget hearings.
