At the Sept. 9 meeting the Bend City Council adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 17–23, 2025 as Constitution Week.
A representative of the Bend chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) reviewed the proclamation language and invited citizens to three local events: Bells Across America on Sept. 17 at the Deschutes Public Library, a free constitution class on Sept. 20 at the Bend Public Library, and another class on Sept. 23 at the Redmond Public Library. The DAR speaker stated the goals of the observance: to encourage study of the framing of the Constitution, to remind the public that the Constitution is the basis of America's heritage, and to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities to protect and defend the Constitution.
Councilor Riley moved acceptance of the proclamation; Councilor North seconded. The council approved the proclamation by voice vote. The DAR representative said the chapter will supply event details and materials to the city and presented a small poster to the mayor.
No policy or budget action was requested.
