Corona City Council approved its consent calendar and separately approved item 6.6 after it was pulled for discussion. Item 6.6 includes authorization related to hazardous‑materials cleanup at the police department; a public commenter objected to the funding source and said the action diverted funds from the Skyline Trail pedestrian bridge project.
Rory Connell, introduced himself as representing District 5, urged the council not to reallocate $200,000 from the Skyline Trail pedestrian bridge project to pay for toxic‑waste cleanup at the police department. "You're pulling $200 away from the Skyline Bridal project to fund the toxic waste cleanup of the police department," Connell said. He described the bridge as a heavily used community resource and said the city had neglected it.
A council or staff speaker responded during the meeting that the pedestrian bridge was in place and that the city had completed the structure at a substantially lower cost than earlier estimates; the speaker stated the bridge "originally was . . . gonna cost, I think it was, like, $600,000, and we actually did it for $5,000." Council discussion concluded and members moved and voted to approve the consent calendar and item 6.6.
The council vote to adopt the consent calendar and approve the pulled item passed on the record. The minutes indicate the consent calendar passed 5‑0 and that the motion on item 6.6 likewise passed; staff will proceed with the hazardous‑materials remediation described in the agenda materials.
