Private road signs, naming process and Ogle Cemetery access raised as safety concerns

Members of the Coffee County Highway Committee discussed private road signage, naming processes and several local safety concerns during the September meeting.
Jeff, Highway Committee member, asked about a private blue sign at the curve near the George Dickel warehouse and whether the county could produce similar signs. Jojo, Highway Department staff, said the department has blank blue sign stock and "we can make those blue signs," but emphasized that a private road must have a legal name assigned through the proper channel (the county's 911 office or an attorney's office that coordinates with D 911) before the department will install a named sign.
The committee also raised safety concerns at Ogle Cemetery, where the circle drive is narrow and staff said school buses have difficulty turning and some parents report children meeting buses at the road. Jojo said turning there is "hard enough to turn around in there with a full little trailer" and the county will try to add shoulder where possible during planned work in the area.
Separately, members described a low spot and drop-off on Devil's Backbone near a cemetery and reports of speeding; staff said there is little they can do topographically and that shoulder work will be considered where feasible.
No formal policy changes were proposed; the discussion highlighted how sign installation requires an established legal road name and how operational shoulder work may be scheduled in response to safety concerns.
