Council approved Resolution CR3725 to begin the property appropriation process required for the North Meadows Drive realignment and the Southwest Area overpass project.
Law Director Stephen Smith told council the project involves three property owners in the project area and that the city had already provided appraisals and opened discussions. Because this is a roadway project, Smith said the city can file to acquire property and begin work once funds are deposited with the court; the resolution starts the process so the city can meet the advertised bid schedule.
Councilors asked questions about likely negotiations and potential impacts on nearby businesses, including Gateway Business Park and Mount Carmel; Smith said staff had begun meetings with those stakeholders and expected to resolve most issues but asked for the resolution so the city could pursue timely bids if necessary.
Council approved the resolution by roll call; no council member recorded a public dissent. Staff will move to advertise the North Meadows realignment project and seek competitive bids consistent with the project timeline.
