The Fort Pierce City Commission on Sept. 2 approved a conditional-use amendment allowing Live Oak Detox, an existing medically supervised short-term detoxification facility at 912 Avenue I, to increase licensed capacity from 14 to 16 clients.
Venice Gilmore, senior planner and historic preservation officer, said the facility sits on roughly 0.56 acres, is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families and accredited by the Joint Commission, and provides medically monitored withdrawal services and therapeutic support. The property contains an existing one-story building with bedrooms and support spaces that were described as configured to serve the increased client load.
Gilmore said the planning board unanimously recommended approval of the conditional use with one condition: that additional parking requirements be waived while the business and use are continuously maintained. She clarified that if the facility’s license or business operation lapses, the parking waiver would no longer apply and the facility would need to re-address parking compliance.
Cody Neely, director of Live Oak Detox, said the facility was built with eight bedrooms and staff described their capacity and operations; no public opposition spoke. After discussion the commission approved the conditional use by roll call.
The approval allows the operator to serve two additional clients under the current facility configuration and licensing, while the city monitors code compliance and continuous operation.
