Public Works authorized to buy Tahoe after Durango found uneconomical to repair

Buddy Romerille, Public Works assistant director, briefed commissioners about a county-owned Durango used by staff that has repeated electrical problems. Romerille said diagnostic work found a bad fuse box, a damaged engine harness and a faulty powertrain control module; he estimated repairs at about $3,000 and said private-party market value for the vehicle in fair condition is roughly $7,000. Because the problems are electrical and recurring, Romerille recommended selling the Durango as-is at auction.
Romerille presented two replacement options: a used LS Tahoe in Woods Cross, Utah (about $60,300 with 4,700 miles) and a new Tahoe from Boise priced at $62,195. He recommended the Boise vehicle if available and suggested the county stay in-state if possible. Commissioners discussed funding and timing; the county indicated capital funds were available.
A commissioner moved to authorize Romerille to pursue the Boise dealer purchase and, if necessary, to spend up to an agreed dollar amount to secure a comparable vehicle if the first option was sold. The motion to authorize purchase passed on a voice vote with all commissioners saying “aye.” Romerille said he would place a purchase order immediately and, if needed, pick up the vehicle with a county representative.
No roll-call tally was recorded; commissioners agreed the Durango should be sold as-is at auction and that staff should proceed with procuring a replacement within the parameters discussed.
