Senate recognizes California–Taiwan ties; author cites $50 billion bilateral trade figure

Senator McNerney presented Senate Resolution 63 on Aug. 30 to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the California–Taiwan sister-state relationship and the 26th anniversary of Taiwanese American Heritage Week. McNerney highlighted bilateral trade figures, saying Taiwan ranked as one of California’s top trading partners and citing a 2024 bilateral trade figure of $50 billion and $280 million in agricultural exports to Taiwan in the prior year.
The senator described Taiwanese investments in semiconductors, AI, green energy and education and characterized the partnership as supporting thousands of local jobs. SR 63 was adopted by roll call; a brief floor acknowledgment followed with senators praising the resolution and noting Taiwanese American community contributions.
