Among the items discussed by staff in committee and referenced for board action were:
- A resolution authorizing the trial court to enter into a contract for tether services with Trak Group Incorporated (resolution ending in 253). - A resolution authorizing a contract with Peterson Research Consultants for trial-court services (resolution ending in 270). - Two juvenile-court–related contracts: one approving contracted defense counsel for juveniles (resolution ending in 309) and another addressing expanded parental representation (resolution ending in 310). - Acceptance of an in-kind gift from the Friends of Berrien County Animal Services: three shade awnings (223 inches long by 118 inches wide) to be installed by Benton Harbor Awnings for the animal services play yards (resolution ending in 314). - Authorization for the road department to apply for a culvert-improvement grant intended to restore fish passage (resolution ending in 315); staff identified two candidate projects and will later define which projects will be proposed if the grant is awarded. - A recurring property-use request approving assembly of motorcycles on the courthouse lawn at 8 a.m. Sept. 7 for the county’s 9-1-1 memorial ride; riders will depart from the courthouse after assembly.
Commissioners also reviewed committee-level items that will return for formal board action at a future meeting. Committee chairs reported routine personnel items: approval of a pension buy-in for a former employee and an advanced-step hire for the county health department’s new WIC supervisor.
