Senate Concurrent Resolution 102 was presented and adopted on Aug. 30, designating October 2025 as California Firefighters Appreciation Month and Oct. 4, 2025 as California Firefighters Memorial Day. Senator Caballero, the author, noted that the California Firefighters Memorial on the Capitol grounds, maintained by the California Fire Foundation, lists more than 1,500 names of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
Speakers including Senator Caballero, Senator Joy, and Senator Richardson emphasized the service firefighters provide across wildfires, structure fires, medical emergencies and disasters. Senator Richardson read a list of recently fallen firefighters by name during remarks. The author announced the memorial ceremony would be held in Sacramento on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, and asked colleagues to support the resolution.
SCR 102 was adopted by roll call. The resolution is commemorative and identifies the memorial ceremony date, asking Californians to honor fallen firefighters and to recognize the ongoing service of the state's fire service personnel.
