Senate highlights domestic violence awareness and survivor support, adopts concurrent resolution

The California State Senate on Aug. 30 adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 104, recognizing October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urging continued support for survivor services and prevention efforts.
Senator Valadares, speaking for the Legislative Women’s Caucus, presented SCR 104 and described prevalence figures cited during the presentation, noting approximately 35 percent of women and 31 percent of men in California experience intimate-partner violence during their lifetimes. She said the state has invested in domestic violence shelters and legal protections and asked colleagues to support prevention and survivor services.
Separately, Senator Rubio delivered remarks on SR 60 — the International Day of Remembrance for violence against women — recounting her own experience as a victim advocate and urging colleagues to pair symbolic recognition with policy work to prevent femicide and support survivors. Rubio cited United Nations data presented to the chamber and called for bipartisan work on policies that “save lives.”
Both resolutions were adopted by roll call; the clerk announced the ayes and noes, and the measures were declared adopted. The presentations combined survivor testimony, statistical citations, and calls for continued investment in shelter and legal services.
