Senate adopts a slate of awareness resolutions, ratifies appointments; unanimous roll calls

The California State Senate on Aug. 30 adopted a package of ceremonial and awareness resolutions and ratified several governor appointments, with most measures passing on unanimous roll calls.

Among the items approved were Senate Resolution 21 (recognizing November as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Month), Senate Concurrent Resolution 91 (celebrating California’s founding anniversary), Senate Resolution 56 (designating September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month), Senate Concurrent Resolution 104 (recognizing October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month), Senate Resolution 60 (Elimination of Violence Against Women Day), Senate Resolution 62 (designating November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month), Senate Concurrent Resolution 102 (California Firefighters Appreciation Month and Firefighters Memorial Day), Senate Resolution 63 (recognizing California–Taiwan ties), Senate Resolution 64 (designating September as California Wine Month), and Senate Resolution 65 (honoring Private Mohammed Khan). The Senate also ratified multiple gubernatorial appointments reported from the Rules Committee.

Votes were recorded on the floor by roll call. For the resolutions reported in the day's third-reading and motions, the Senate clerk recorded “the ayes are 37, the noes are 0” repeatedly during the session; those tallies were announced after each roll call and the measures were declared adopted. The governor’s appointments presented were likewise ratified by roll call.

The Senate proceeded to take up and adopt consent- and special-consent calendar items following the roll-call votes; members waived further debate on those measures. The session included a procedural referral under Senate Rule 29.1(d) to re-refer a previously reported measure to the Committee on Rules.

The clerk announced the next floor session for Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.
