The Ojai City Council approved a special meeting agenda and adjourned into closed session Friday to discuss labor negotiations concerning the city’s "Charlie" drivers and the city’s unrepresented employees.
A staff member told the council, "No reportable action is expected on either, and no final action can be taken on compensation in closed session." The council moved forward after a motion to approve the special meeting agenda was made and seconded on the record.
Mister Montgomery reported there were no public comments for the meeting, saying, "We have 0 public comments, and for the record, no one is on Zoom." Council members present at roll call included Mayor Gilman, Mayor Pro Tem Lang, Council Member Ruhl, Council Member Whitman and Council Member Meng.
City staff did not provide additional details on the specific bargaining positions, anticipated timelines, or the number of employees covered beyond naming the two topics for discussion. The staff member said any changes to compensation would be considered in a future open session.
The council’s announcement that it would move to closed session and the staff clarification that no final compensation action can occur there were the only substantive items recorded in the public portion of this meeting. The council then adjourned into closed session.
