Trustees adopt second-and-final reading revisions to policies JG, KL and GL

The Lyon County School District board on Aug. 26 approved revisions to three district policies — JG (student discipline), KL and GL — as a second and final reading.
Board members discussed proposed language additions to policy GL (staff complaints) intended to clarify the administrative routing of complaints and to prevent individuals from conducting their own investigations. Billy Joe Hogan (district counsel/staff) explained that existing procedures already route complaints to the appropriate administrator unless the complaint concerns that administrator, in which case the complaint is routed upward.
Trustee Hendricks moved and a colleague seconded the motion to approve the three policies as presented. Trustees voted 7–0 to adopt the revisions. The board did not remove any policy from the bundle for separate consideration at the Aug. 26 meeting.
Superintendent Tim Logan said the district will present policy EDBB (cell phone/electronic devices) at the Sept. 23 meeting; the board instructed staff that K–8 students should not have electronic devices out during the school day under the current policy, and that secondary students may use devices during noninstructional time under the existing language.
The board’s action at the Aug. 26 meeting finalizes the specific JG/KL/GL text changes that were presented as a second reading; staff said they will post or distribute the revised policy language according to normal district practice.
