Santa Rosa commissioners proclaim September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and name Sept. 6 Bailey Bruner Day

Commissioner Colton Wright read a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, noting that local organizations such as Rally Gulf Coast support families facing pediatric cancer and provide resources during treatment. The proclamation cites local statistics presented to the board and encourages residents to participate in awareness and fundraising activities.
A second proclamation named Sept. 6, 2025, as Bailey Bruner Day in recognition of the memory of Bailey Bruner and the American Legion Post 378’s annual Rally and Ride fund-raiser. Speakers from Rally Gulf Coast and American Legion Post 378 described the Sept. 6 event: registration begins at 9 a.m., a caravan of motorcycles, Jeeps and classic cars departs at 11 a.m., the group visits the Graffiti Bridge for a program and a memorial moment, then proceeds to Studer Family Children’s Hospital for a one‑hour visit with patients, after which a fundraising “after party” returns to American Legion Post 378 at 4656 Gulf Breeze Parkway.
A Rally Gulf Coast representative told commissioners the event has raised more than $60,000 for the foundation over the past four years and emphasized that the proclamation shines a light on families affected by childhood cancer. The board adopted both proclamations; each document was signed by Chair Carrie Smith.
The board invited Rally Gulf Coast and American Legion representatives to take a photo with commissioners following the proclamations.
