Board hears plans for Connette Stadium upgrades and $40 million state capital outlay application

The construction department presented the Connette Stadium upgrade project with a project development cost of $7,470,000 to be funded from capital-project funds, and recommended Freeman and Associates as construction manager. The superintendent recommended approval of the construction manager selection.
Construction staff said work on bleachers and the concession stand will begin in November, the week after the final regular-season football game. That phase is expected to run roughly eight months, with completion targeted for late June or early July of the following year. The department also reported a completed field and near-complete track phase that required only striping to finish.
Attendees were told the district submitted a FY27 state capital outlay application for 10 projects with a total estimated cost of $40,082,199. Officials said they anticipate $7,237,000 in state funding for the package, with the remaining approximately $32,845,199 to be covered by local funding. The listed projects included work at Baker Middle, Blanchard Elementary, Carver High, Eddie Middle, Ford Middle, Midland Academy, North Columbus, Rothschild Middle and Waddell Elementary.
The board also heard recommendations to select Neil Kendrick Murray (architect firm spelled in material as Neil Kendrick Murray Architects) for design and oversight of minor renovation and painting projects at multiple schools, and to use the construction-manager-at-risk delivery method for scheduled summer renovation work.
A construction-status slideshow described forthcoming projects such as a Blackman Road HVAC cooling-tower replacement, Double Churches Elementary upgrades and the Connette Stadium full upgrade. Staff thanked voters for passing the East Floss capital fund that supports the projects.
Separately, the board received notice that Hecht Burchaw Architects Inc. plans to enter a legal partnership with McMullen Pazdan Smith Architects PC; contracts for current projects will be aligned to the new legal entity name.
Board members asked scheduling and scope questions and described in-person observations of progress at Eagle Ridge and Connette Stadium. The construction committee closed with no formal vote recorded at the work session; recommendations were presented for consideration on the board—s upcoming agenda.
