Camdenton reports increase in A+ scholarship claims; attendance and test scores remain barrier for some seniors

A staff presenter said the district has received more applications this year — “probably 30 more now,” — and described two recurring barriers to qualification: an algebra end‑of‑course (AOC) benchmark and attendance requirements. The presenter said some students who did not qualify at graduation retook the algebra AOC multiple times or used alternate pathways such as an ACT score to meet eligibility.
Staff noted the district offers an appeals committee for students with extenuating medical circumstances and reminded the board that students have up to two years after high school to begin using earned A+ benefits. The presenter said there is no hard application cutoff and that the district continues to monitor seniors’ eligibility through the start of the school year.
The board did not take formal action; staff asked the board if they had questions and outlined plans to continue family outreach, increase social‑media messaging to parents and highlight program dollars on campus bulletin boards to encourage participation.
Officials said they will continue tracking A+ participation and will report further updates to the board.
