The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 2 approved its regular meeting agenda and a package of administrative consent items that included a $20,023 budget amendment for the county Health Department’s WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program and the donation of six surplus Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles to the Mooresville Graded School District for its automotive education program.
County Manager staff summarized the consent items at the start of the meeting and said the package also included a proclamation designating September 2025 as Library Card Sign-Up Month, adoption of the Iredell County electronic records and imaging policy, a request from ICAPS to call a public hearing on Sept. 16 for fiscal year 2027 transportation grants, authorization for the solid waste department to sell heavy equipment at online auction, and approval of minutes from the Aug. 5 and Aug. 19 commission meetings. The health department’s WIC budget amendment — described by staff as $20,023 to purchase additional supplies and equipment for the WIC program — was added as an item to the administrative matters (item 8.8) and included in the consent approval.
The board approved the agenda on a voice vote after a motion by Vice Chair Neider, and later approved the pre-agenda administrative consent package on a motion by Commissioner Stroud. In each instance the board chair called for voice votes and recorded no opposition.
The board also filled several vacancies on county boards and commissions. The commission reappointed William Pope and Harrison Jenkins to the Farmland Preservation Board by motion and approved the following appointments by separate motions: Rick Schroeder to the Iredell County Jury Commission; Pamela Miller to the Statesville Board of Adjustment (ETJ member); and Richard Coleman as an alternate to the Iredell County Board of Adjustment. Each appointment was approved on voice vote with no opposition recorded.
During commissioner updates, members noted recent recognitions and local partnerships. Commissioner Helt said the county health department received an innovation award for its mobile health unit and that an individual named Kent Green received an award for a program described as “heroic hands.” Another commissioner praised Mitchell Community College’s workforce programs, singling out welding and commercial driver’s license training and describing the college partnership as growing.
County staff told the board that the county held two closed-session items earlier in the day: one on economic development under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(4) and one on attorney-client matters under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(3) involving litigation identified as Bridal v. Miller. The manager said no action was taken in closed session.
The meeting adjourned after routine business. The county manager noted that the board will host a public hearing on Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m. regarding FY27 transportation grants as part of the ICAPS item called earlier in the meeting.
