WDVA study to pick site for Tri-City state veterans cemetery; completion expected by yearend

The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs will begin a predesign study of two parcels under consideration for a Tri-City State Veteran Cemetery, and the study is expected to be complete by the end of the year, a councilmember read from a WDVA update at the Sept. 16 West Richland meeting. The update said state legislative and governors funding will allow the predesign work to proceed.
The predesign study will compare the parcels on suitability and narrow costs for land and site improvements such as water, sewer, septic and electrical service. WDVAs update said the study is required to move forward to secure future state and federal construction funding. City Councilmember May Hayes read the WDVAs September 2025 update to the council.
The update said the state supplemental budget request is working to request funds for land purchase and site improvements; WDVA will determine whether the project is eligible for consideration in the 2026 legislative session. The notice thanked local community members for advocacy and said the project is a multi-year process; WDVA provided an email contact for questions.
