County administrator reports courthouse punch-list, AR funds timeline and service moves

Adams said the courthouse renovation walkthrough planned for board members did not occur because doors were locked; the certificate of occupancy has not been issued due to outstanding corrections identified by the building inspector. She asked board members to notify staff so another walkthrough can be scheduled.
Adams reported the county is approaching the end of its American Recovery Funds timeline and intends to spend remaining funds by Dec. 31 on broadband and directional-sign projects. She said Dominion Energy’s transmission-line project — unrelated to a local data center project — has been pushed back and Dominion will present near the end of the year rather than in September.
The Department of Social Services has moved into a new building and is open for business; Adams said an open house will be scheduled in the coming months. She also said Bridal Lifeline will be dissolved in December, which affects how the rescue squad communicates with the hospital because the squad uses UHF radios that the hospital does not have. Adams said county staff and emergency providers are discussing purchasing radios for the hospital to restore direct communications.
Adams noted facilities and public-safety staff have been participating in planning for several community events, and finalized details for a Board work session on capital-improvement projects scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. in the county administration office.
