Mayor opened public comments by describing recent stewardship awards presented by a regional chamber and recognized local winners from Shelby. He said Shelby had two first‑place winners in the contest and presented two trophies that the city will hold for display.
The mayor singled out the Shelby Flower Girls for a first‑place award in the “neighborhood” category and praised long‑running volunteer work that beautifies downtown and the Black Fork Commons bridge area. “I can't say enough about their efforts over these many years,” the mayor said, adding that organizers Sue Eisner and Debbie Dorsey and other volunteers often work behind the scenes.
Council members and attendees then heard from Shelby Middle School advisor Miss Rollins, who described the EcoWippetsprogram. Miss Rollins said the group has run an electronics recycling drive for several years and recently expanded to a countywide event in partnership with the county solid waste authority and an outside recycler. “In the last two years alone, we have advanced to recycle 14,000 pounds of electronics,” Miss Rollins said, and she added the school program recovers roughly 3,000–4,000 pounds of material annually in regular school recycling.
Council members asked staff to find a place in city hall to display the trophies. The mayor and council took a group photo with representatives of the winning groups before moving on to committee reports.
